A deep violet-black that takes its name from a pioneering synthetic pigment used in printing and dyeing. In the 1860s Mr. J . Lightfoot brought us a blacker black after studying the oxidation of new compound, aniline. Aniline purple had been accidentally created a few decades earlier while student Willam H. Perkins was trying to synthesize quinine - and that accidental discovery set off a giant Victorian wave of mauve everything. In this rich black yarn, you can catch hints of that sweet Victorian violet shade in the right lighting. Base: Carson (4-ply DK) 100% Superwash Merino; 246 yards / 100 grams Price listed is per one (1) skein of yarn. All indie-dyed yarn works up differently depending on gauge, project size, and needle/hook size. Swatches are shown in sock base, from a previous dye batch, to give an average idea of the colorway.
