White Cut Work Embroidered Sampler

Lovely white cut work embroidered marking sampler dating from the late 19th to early 20th century showing vivid crimson and white thread that appear in random blocks against a paperwhite linen ground. This nicely worked textile is quite festive for holiday decorating. Wrought in either Europe or in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland region. Cutwork is a form of whitework where small sections of the ground fabric are cut away. The open area is edged with stitches and, depending on the type of cutwork, may be filled with other stitches. A pattern was used to work this textile as shown behind some of the white stitches lending a light blue color mark. It appears a raised stem stitch was used along with a back stitch worked with cotton thread. The initials may portray “FK”?
