Basic Sewing

During this course, students will be introduced to sewing equipment, tools, threads, needles, and trims. They will learn all the basic techniques for hand sewing and machine sewing, stitches, and seam finishes, and they will become familiar with a professional vocabulary of sewing terms and definitions. As part of the course, students will complete a series of practical exercises, compiling them into a comprehensive Stitch Album/Reference Book. This invaluable resource includes detailed references on various sewing elements such as boning, trims and tapes, fusible interfacings, thread, button attachment, seams and seam finishes, hems, darts, pleats, and bias tape, among others. The final goal is to complete the Stitch Album/ Reference Book so you can keep it as a reference and go-to when constructing garments.
