Textiles 101
Choosing the fabric, materials, and trim is an exciting and critical part of the design process. A style may require specific materials to communicate the full vision or function of the design, it's crucial that any designer learns about textiles. By the end of this Textile 101 course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of textiles, enabling them to confidently navigate the world of fabrics, their characteristics, and applications in design. Through a structured exploration of terminology, processes, properties, and finishes, students will be able to discern the journey from fibers to yarns and appreciate the significance of each stage in textile production. They will differentiate between natural and manmade fibers, while also distinguishing between various fabric constructions including woven, knit, and non-woven variations. Furthermore, students will actively engage with the course content to compile a Swatch Kit that serves as an invaluable reference tool. This k
