MATERIALS (included) All materials included! Students are welcome to bring their own denim pieces as well. DETAILS In this workshop we will explore sashiko, a striking Japanese hand-sewing technique. Traditionally used to mend textiles, sashiko can just as easily be used to embellish clothing and fabrics around the home. Requiring no special equipment other than a sewing needle and thread, it is a centuries-old embroidery technique that not only strengthens but intricately adorns fabric, bringing it new life. In feudal Japan, when clothing was made completely from scratch – the raw materials grown, the fiber spun, the fabric woven and dyed, and the articles of clothing sewn together by hand – it was important to make every piece last for as long as possible, even over generations.
