Tommy Atkins mangoes are the most common varieties found in US supermarkets because they have a good shelf life and are resistant to disease. While they get a bad rap as being somewhat bland, this is primarily due to most imported mangoes (and most produce, for that matter) being harvested before the flavor has fully developed. Our bulk mango puree is made from mangoes picked in their prime! If you want to taste pure mango heaven, go to South America and pick up a ripe Tommy Atkins that naturally fell off the tree. It is juicy, and the flesh is firm (not mushy like many other varieties). The taste is crisp and piquant with a balanced sweetness. Better yet, the Tommy Atkins has fewer of the annoying
