Tony Montana should have smuggled this to America. The Havana Club brand was established in 1878 by José Arechabala in Santa Cruz Del Norte, Cuba. Decades later the Arechabala family was ousted and the distillery was nationalized by the government. In 1994 Pernod Ricard joined in as a partner to introduce Havana Club to the World. What makes the Selección de Maestros special is its production. This rum, formerly known as Cuban Barrel Proof, is hand-picked from the company's finest aged stocks and bottled straight from the cask at 45% proof, which gives it a truly explosive nature. It is aged in American white oak casks that had been used for Bourbon ageing. Additionally, after the rum is blended they finish it in younger oak casks that breathe new life into this old Rum. Yum!
