Adams Female Dry Fly

The Adams Female Dry Fly is a slight variation on the Adams Dry Fly. The Adams is the most famous dry fly pattern in the world because it imitates the adult stage of a wide range of waterborne insects, including mayflies, midges, and caddis. The Adams Female features a small yellow band at the end of the hook shank, whereas the original Adams is entirely gray. This yellow band is thought to draw additional attention to the fly, making it appear as if the insect is about to drop eggs. The Adams is often used as the point fly in a dry dropper rig. Experienced anglers can use both the Adams and the Adams Female in a double dry combination.
