Description: A nice small glazed and sgraffito decorated redware pie plate. The plate has a flat base with flared rounded sides rising to a lightly coggeled edge. The plate is decorated with a sgraffito design depicting three tulip flowers on stems with leaves. One of the tulips is facing one way and the other two are facing the opposite way. The plate is yellow in color with the design itself being in the reddish-brown coloring typical of redware sgraffito decoration and is surrounded with green sponged highlights indicative of copper oxide all on the yellow background. The plate was made by Lester Breininger himself on January 3, 1980 (39 years ago). This type of decoration is very much in the Pennsylvania Dutch style common in southeastern Pennsylvania specifically in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Lancaster counties. The plate is glazed on the inside but not on the back. The unglazed back has the characteristic color of unglazed redware and is signed by the artist. Please carefull
