1991 Jonathan Bastian Carved and Painted Wood Schimmel Style Rooster Standing

Description: A beautiful carved wood and polychrome painted rooster standing on a raised green colored base. The carving is in the Wilhelm Schimmel style and depicts the rooster proudly standing with a red comb, red wattles, an off-white-colored body with black highlights and yellow beak. The rooster's legs are yellow in color and are carved into the baser. The rooster is standing on what we would characterize as a rock that is egg shaped with a hump on top and is green in color. The rooster’s carving shows a lot of details such as carved eyes colored in black, a carved beak colored in yellow, the carved tail on the back of the bird, and carved wattles below the bird’s head as well as a carved comb above it. The bottom of the base is marked with a carved "JB 91" for Jonathan Bastian 1991. Just a very well-done piece of Pennsylvania German folk art worthy of a spot in your collection.
