1993 Hand Carved Polychrome Painted Wilhelm Schimmel Style Wooden Primitive Rooster Standing By Jonathan Bastian

Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk Art figure by Jonathan Bastian. The carving, which is reminiscent of Wilhelm Schimmel carvings of the 1800s, shows a colorful rooster standing with its head pointing up. The rooster is dark gray with black and white blotches throughout and red wattle and comb. It also has a yellow beak and legs and stands on a green base. The bird is made in the Wilhelm Schimmel style with the bulky body and primitive features. It is signed and dated in red colored paint on the base. The carving shows details of the eyes, the head, comb, wattle, beak, the tail, and feet. It is very well done and shows the marks of the tool used to carve it throughout.
