Description: A nice primitive polychrome painted composition sculpture in the form of a standing bird by John R Dierwechter. The folk art bird is standing on white rectangular base. The bird is yellow in color with reddish brown wings, black eyes, black beak, and black feathers on its tail. There is also black lines to show the bird's claws on the base. The base is stamped with the initials JRD. This is piece is made in the best folk art tradition of the Pennsylvania Dutch and mimics chalkware pieces from the 19th and early 20th century. Mr. Dierwechter who died in 1996, lived and worked in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania. This piece was most likely made some time in the period 1960s- 1990s.
