Late 1900s Polychrome Painted Composition Folk Art Pig Standing By J Dierwechter
Description: A nice folk art polychrome painted composition sculpture in the form of a black and white colored pig with red colored hearts on the tip of its ears by John R Dierwechter. The folk-art pig is standing in grass with flowers under its belly. The pig is colored in black with a white band in its center. The figure shows the pig's ears, tail, eyes, and mouth. The base of the piece is stamped with the initials JRD within three rectangular deep impressions. This is piece is made in the best folk-art tradition of the Pennsylvania Dutch and mimics chalkware pieces from the 19th and early 20th century. Mr. Dierwechter who died in 1996, lived and worked in Lebanon County Pennsylvania. This piece was most likely made some time in the period 1960s- 1980s.
