Old Lead Glazed Redware Cup Manganese Sponging Baluster Profile & Applied Handle
Description: An antique (circa 1870) southeastern Pennsylvania lead glazed redware cup. The cup has a baluster profile with a flared rounded rim. It is decorated with manganese sponging and has a tooled foot flange. The cup has a ribbed strap applied handle. It is reddish-brown in color and has manganese sponging throughout. It is most likely from Berks County. The piece is in relatively very good condition with no breaks, chips, hairlines, or repairs. It does have general wear to the rim with small flakes and glaze losses. It also has general crazing to the glaze throughout. Be that as it may, this is a very nice antique in very good condition, which would display very nicely in your collection.
