Egg Shell Cup and Saucer Set

     This is a very beautifully delicate cup and saucer set. This cup and saucer set is referred to as egg shell porcelain. It does not mean that there is egg shell in the clay mix like with bone china (having animal bone in the clay mix) or ivory china (having ivory in the clay mix). what is meant by egg shell is that the porcelain item is very light weight and has an  excessively thin body or walls under the glazing making it feel and look like egg shells. This cup is a pedestal decagon (10 sided) egg shell cup with a scallop gold rim and gold painted handle and has a hand painted rose pattern with gold accent designs. The saucer also has a gold trim scallop rim and is also has hand painted rose pattern with gold accent designs. Pieces marked with just “Japan” or “Made in Japan” in plain text without any company name or company hallmark is general date to the period immediately after the second world war. The small blue and white paper label on the saucer came into existence in 1952
