The Russian Almond Shrub (Prunus tenella) Russian Almond is a low deciduous suckering shrub which bears white, pink or red flowers in May depending on whether the species or a cultivar is grown. The flowers are 3/4 inch across and the fuzzy fruit is a red cherry most ornamental in summer. Dons lustrous foliage and nice yellow-orange fall color. The abundance of rose-red blooms are true showstoppers, a true spring garden spectacle.   More of an ornamental than a nut producer, nut is bitter. This shrub grows at a medium rate, with height increases of 13–24" per year, requires regular pruning for shrub/multi-stemming.  Uses: Single Specimen, Mass Planting, General Garden Use, Naturalizing And Woodland Gardens.  Not recommended for container growth.   Plant in full sun (at least 6 hours), in in acidic, alkaline, loamy, moist, rich, sandy, silty loam, well-drained and clay soils.
