The Water Tupelo Tree (Nyssa aquatica) is a large symmetrical aquatic tree that features a swollen base, upward tapering trunk and rounded spreading crown. Leaves are large, glossy, oblong to obovate, dark green with smooth edges, Leaves turn yellow in fall. Trees are primarily dioecious, dark purple fruit mature in fall. Often seen growing in standing water in the lower Mississippi Valley and southeastern U.S. coastal areas.
