Yellow Birch Tree
The Yellow birch Tree (Betula alleghaniensis) (also known as gray birch, silver birch, and swamp birch) is a medium to large deciduous tree with a trunk diameter of 2 to 4 feet. Yellow birch is one of the largest of the eastern hardwoods and is the most esteemed and sought after for it's timber. Very similar to sweet birch, but easily distinguished by its bark; an amber-yellow to silvery yellow-gray bark that peels off in thin curls. The toothed leaves are roughly oval in shape, tapering to a gentle point, and are borne alternately along the stems. The pale green twigs are slightly aromatic. Plant in most moist fertile sandy loam, well-drained, acidic to alkaline soils, in full sun to some shade.
