ACTS: The Dynamis of God Bible Study
The book of Acts is dynamite. In fact, that’s the exact word used in the verse that lays the course for the whole book. Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” The Greek word used for “power” in this verse is dynamis which is where we get the English word dynamite. Dynamite is used to disrupt. It can disrupt the inside of a mountain or mine so that something valuable can be brought out. The explosion of the gospel in the Roman Empire did just that—it disrupted. The gospel transformed the greatest and most powerful empire to ever exist. Then when Rome finally fell, the Church was still standing, outlasting the very empire that tried to snuff it out centuries earlier. The book of Acts is a book about the power (dynamis) of the Holy Spirit to advance the gospel no matter what persecution or obstacles we might face. Jesus will build His Church. Bu
