Child training. It’s sort of a “taboo” phrase in our culture right now. Say it and you’re likely to hear someone spout off, “We train dogs, not children!” And while it’s true that we train dogs (I am trying to train my six-month-old golden retriever at the moment), it is equally as true that we must train our children. In fact, godly training of children is infinitely more important than that of training animals. It will require that we too are in training, listening to and obey- ing God in our own lives. Why? Because we can’t give our children what we don’t have ourselves. God’s Word teaches us that we have but one window of time to teach and train our children in righteousness. Adam and Eve’s sin had devastating consequences for all of us, but the first consequences were borne in the death of Abel and in Cain’s ruin.
