Salar Khani Baluch Balisht - 1’6 x 3’3
This Baluch rug was handwoven during the early 20th century in Afghanistan. It features two octagonal Turkmen guls on a red ground and is framed by a border of hourglass and cruciform shapes. The use of the turreted Turkmen inspired gUPS are a hallmark of the Salar Khani Baluch subtribe. it has rich saturated tones and a nice interplay between light and dark. The original kilim ends on top and bottom are each embellished with their own weft float pattern. This balisht has its original kilim back still intact which employs thick stripes of red, orange, brown, and ivory. In very good condition, with wear along the edges. The kilim back has been stitched to the rug in some areas "folk" style (as pictured) Low pile, with a loose handle.
