Caucasian Soumak rug, handwoven during the first quarter of the 20th century.  This unusual Soumak is pieced together in a variety of intersecting shapes in faded blues, greens, corals, yellow, and ivory. The haphazard shapes appear to be an attempt at the famous “dragon” design” which went awry. Three ivory palmettes really pop in the field drawing the eye and brightening the rug. The main border features a pinwheel of four serrated leaves alternating with rosette-filled diamonds. In good condition, worn to the wool pile in areas throughout as pictured. Flatwoven, with a solid handle.   Size: 5'1" x 7'6" [155cm x 229cm] Age: Q1 20th Century (1900 - 1925) Country of Origin: Caucasus Type of Rug: Soumak  Material: Wool Pile Height: Flatwoven with supplemental soumak weft Condition: Very Good   BK2061   Check out our Caucasian and Soumak collections!
