Antique Peking Water Scene Rug - 6’ x 8’8
This Peking rug was handwoven in Eastern China during the turn of the 20th century. It features a sparsely decorated deep blue field with a rounded central scene of architecture, trees, and a rock formation. It is framed by a thick khaki inner band with four similar but distinctive scenes around the perimeter that creep into the main field. Blue lines and waves suggest water and a sunset over the water as well, a small boat is visible in the scene on the middle right. Also of note is the inclusion of a person in the bottom center scene. Could it be the weaver? In a very desirable and hard to come by size for Peking rugs.
