Antique Peking Rug - 8' x 9'6

This Peking Chinese rug handwoven in Eastern China during the turn of the 20th century.  This rug features a central medallion and four cornices of blossoming flowers on an open and expansive indigo blue field. Framed by nicely spaced main border of individual flowering branches of an ivory ground and finished with a solid block of navy around the perimeter.  Peking rugs were created for the British market and the palette was utilized to emulate the look of blue and white Chinese porcelain which was extremely popular in the West. In Fair condition, areas of wear to the foundation but structurally sound condition,. Some pile wear in specific areas where foundation shows but is still intact.
