Baluch Chanteh with Tassels - 1' x 1'3
This small bag or "Chanteh" was handwoven by the Baluch during the middle of the 20th century. The bag face is double sided with a densely woven pile on both sides. Braided loops at the top of both bag faces act as clasps. The central design is seperated in four quadrants in light and dark purple, blue, and small orange accents. It is framed by a main ivory border of alternating 8 pointed stars. The top of the bag is left open for access and is finished with one line of ivory that is soumak woven. What really makes this little bag special are the myriad tassels of hand spun wool surrounding it and embellished with weaving and shells. In very good condition, some discoloration in the main border. Signs of wear consistent with age.
