Yuuyake Burning Sunset

This one of a kind piece is an elegant ring of glass from thin, colorful hand-cut strips arranged in a linear pattern.  The Japanese title describes the vibrant and often red coloring of the sky during sunset. The glass is fired in a kiln to 1400 degrees, which is hot enough to melt the pieces together while retaining an element of texture that catches the light. This piece blends an array of warm tones interspersed with watery blue tone and jewel peacock tones. A mix of transparent and opaque glass allows the light to transmit making the panel glow.
