It would have been worth four drachms, with drachms being the smaller and more common denomination of Macedonian silver coins. The coin depicts Alexander as the Greek hero Herakles, with a lion skin draped over his head, as well as a seated image of the god Zeus on the reverse side.Due to his popularity as a ruler, silver coins like this continued to be issued in Alexander's name for up to two centuries after his death.
