Why This Watch Matters A well-built chronograph from the 1950s is always a welcome sight; add an uncommon brand name, great movement, and 18k gold case, and you have a stunner. The Full Story Eberhard & Co. watches are really impressive in person. The finishing is on par with the best in the mid-century watchmaking world, and the brand name looks really good on a dial. Chronographs are where Eberhard really hit their stride, especially with the Extra-Fort model. The movement inside is Eberhard's caliber 310-8, the same found in the Contodat, another well-known chronograph from the brand. As the name suggests, the Contodat has an added complication of a date. Beyond the movement, this example measures oversized for the time period at 36mm and is constructed in solid 18k gold. Inside the caseback, the gold tone appears yellow, but the outer case has aged over the years to a warm, almost rose gold hue.
