Why This Watch Matters Angelus and Freccero might not ring too many bells but they should. The Full Story Angelus is known for being the first manufacturer to offer a split-number date in a wristwatch; most of the brand's watches feature a date complication of some kind. Moreso than dates, the company really demonstrated a prowess for complications in the 1940s and 1950s, before many other brands started to offer things like triple dates and moon-phase equipped chronographs. Two other brands who shared that early love for complications were Universal Genève and Patek Philippe. Watches from both of those makers as well as Angelus found their way into the jewelry cases of Freccero – a leading retailer in Montevideo, Uruguay.
