Alligator Buckle
Description (Alligator mississippiensis) The American Alligator, sometimes referred to as a "Gator" or common alligator, is a large crocadilian reptile native to the Southeastern United States and a small section of northeastern Mexico. These reptiles inhabit subtropical and tropical freshwater wetlands, such as marshes and cypress swamps, from southern Texas to North Carolina. American alligators are apex predators and consume fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. They play an important role as eco-engineers in wetland ecosystems through the creation of alligator holes, which provide both wet and dry habitats for other organisms. Both males and females bellow loudly by sucking air into their lungs and blowing it out in intermittent, deep-toned roars to attract mates and declare territory.
