19th Century Carved Oak Fauteuil Wainscot Chair

Antique carved wooden chair with high-relief wainscot paneling. This piece is a perfect example of form over function. While it may not be the most comfortable sit of your life, it more than makes up for it with its eye-catching ornamentation. The back panel is comprised of floral and leaf scrolls, creating a series of tightly curled trimmings, giving this chair a series of deep recesses between raised embellishments. This motif extends out towards the arms, both of which are capped with wide, acanthus leaves. In addition to these, the chair also features a multitude of geometric and other shapes inspired by nature.
