c. 1890s; Ives Manufacturing Co. - Plymouth, CT This remarkable toy is all original and structurally very sound. Each side of the train car has embossed lettering that reads "PRESIDENT". There is also embossed lettering on the one side that reads "PAT. APR. 30. 95." There is a moderate amount of paint wear from play wear but the toy retains an especially nice aged patina. The hand painted passengers show light wear but still look awesome adding a lot of character to this toy. This toy is very rugged and solid weighing in at 3.8 lbs. It has no breaks, cracks, repairs, replaced parts or repainting. The Ives Manufacturing Company was established shortly after the Civil War in 1868. Initially they were known for their paper dolls with moving limbs but they soon branched out into a variety of toys including cast iron toys that included cannons, horse drawn wagons and carriages, trains and horseless carriages.
