The fine art of fiber wall sculptures & tapestries by Wendy Carpenter: "Unionid mussels are native to North America and are of particular interest because of their unique life history, importance to aquatic ecosystems, and use as indicators of change in water and habitat quality. They have undergone significant declines in Lake Michigan over the past century. I painted an abstract underwater mussel environment, cut the painting into strips, and then wove the strips with an inlay threading! The small weavings are mounted in a mustard milk wash-colored wood frame measuring 9” x 6.5”. Art to create awareness about the importance of preserving our aquatic ecosystem.
