Original 19th Century German - Scandinavian Flintlock Saddle Ring Carbine with Safety Dog Lock - Dated 1828 and 1831
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very interesting German - Scandinavian style Flintlock Saddle Ring Carbine, which definitely looks to have seen long service. It has all brass fittings except for the iron side plate, which has a very long saddle ring bar attached to it, with the other end terminating on the middle barrel band. The saddle ring unfortunately has been lost at some time, but it is definitely a lovely example with some interesting markings and characteristics. The carbine features a 18 1/2 inch long smoothbore barrel, which has a bore of approximately .70". The carbine is 33 1/2 inches in overall length, and has a full length musket style butt stock with an early "bannister rail" style comb on top. The lock is very interesting, as it definitely has a functional half cock position, but also features a safety "dog" that can be engaged when it is at half cock. It is dated C 1831 on the body of the lock plate, while there is an Austrian-style double headed eagle on
