Original U.S. Civil War Era M-1840 Light Artillery Officers Saber with Imported Blade & Scabbard

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a Civil War Model 1841 Light Artillery Officer's Saber. This example has an imported blade, likely German, which is unmarked. The sword measures approximately 38" overall, and has a brass "D" guard enclosing a twisted brass wire bound leather hand grip, which is still in good condition. The sword comes complete with its curved all steel scabbard with two hanging rings. This example was covered with grease at one point to keep it clean, but that grease has unfortunately dried and completely coated the blade and hilt with a dark caramel-colored rainbow patina.  The dried grease has caused some oxidation in spots, namely at the blade ricasso. We attempted to clean a small bit of the blade and it worked, so the sword could certainly be cleaned with enough work.
