Original U.S. M1830 Officer's Etched Eagle Head Pommel Sword by Horstmann with Ribbed Bone Grip & Scabbard
Original item: Only One Available. Here we have a very nice original Eagle Headed U.S. Officer's sword from the mid 1800s. The sword is all brass mounted with an interesting two part "D" hand guard and a a very nice "closed mouth" Eagle pommel. The grip is carved ribbed bone, and while it does show age, we do not see any cracks or chips on it at all. The eagle's head is very well executed, with a lovely antiqued brass patina. It is however now loose on the blade, as is the crossguard. The sword is 33 inches long overall, with a straight 28 1/4 inch single edged blade, with a broad fuller. It has a bright steel finish, and the original etching is still well retained. There are foliate designs on one side, with a bow and arrow on the other side. It is also etched with the retailers name where it was purchased: W. H. HORSTMANN& SONSPHILADELPHIA Horstmann's was a well known military outfitter in Philadelphia for many years, particularly during and after the Civil war, so we assume th
