Webb's MIRI instrument captured this detailed view of the barred spiral galaxy M83, bringing its creeping tendrils of gas, dust and stars to life! MIRI's infrared vision reveals the distribution of stars concentrated at M83's core as bright blue dots and stellar nurseries bursting with newborn stars in yellow. Compared to our eyes' optical view, MIRI sees longer infrared wavelengths, like the red-orange glow of important carbon molecules called PAHs swirling through M83's arms.
