Ancient Deity 

The mythic Quetzal was esteemed by the ancient Mayans as embodying power, richness, and the deities. Its glimmering green plumes were valued for their vibrancy and also as a symbol of prosperity. The Mayans believed that the Quetzal was a messanger from the gods sent to protect and offer life to them. Photographing this bird in its natural habitat is most certainly an almost-surreal experience. Its peculiar and intensely colorful feathers and long extravagant tail plumes appear like an impossible vision. I recorded these scenes in the Costa Rican highlands, a mystical forest housing the greatest concentration of the elusive Quetzal. Limited Edition 950
