Combo Level 3, Jay Thomas, Monday, 7:30-9:00pm

This combo will meet weekly on Mondays running January 12th to March 16th with performances on March 20th, 21st, & 22nd. Seattle jazz luminary and veteran educator Jay Thomas uses an old-school approach to leading this level 3 combo. Jay keeps written music to a minimum and focuses on learning by ear and memorization. Emphasis is placed on developing a unique sound as an ensemble, advanced improvisation techniques using complex harmony and 8th note lines, complex rhythmic structures and grooves, and furthering exposure to the jazz tradition. Music is selected by the instructor with input from students and tends to be drawn from the standard jazz canon.
