Spontaneous Groove Ensemble, Dylan Hughes, Saturday, 1:45-3:15pm
This combo will meet weekly on Saturdays running January 10th to March 14th with performances on March 20th, 21st, & 22nd. Seattle neo-soul and hip-hop standout Dylan Hughes leads Jazz Night School’s Spontaneous Groove Ensemble, where the focus is all about spontaneity, creativity, and collaboration. In this ensemble, you’ll sharpen your ears, build improvisation skills, and learn how to turn “nothing” into a groove worth remembering. Through jamming, you’ll explore listening, ear training, common chord progressions, phrasing, dynamics, and even how to craft bridges on the fly. It’s hands-on, in-the-moment music making. The quarter builds toward a live performance at a local jazz venue, where you’ll showcase the skills and fearless creativity developed throughout the session. Homework: Homework is comprised of playing assignments based on the ensemble music and individual needs. Student Requirements: Punctual attendance and desire to learn and improve.
