Hades

Hades, god of the underworld, the dead and wealth. He was the oldest male child born of Cronus and Rhea.   Hades got the authority over the underworld when he and his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon defeated the Tians and divided rulership of the universe.  The Greeks associated Hades with death and therefore feared him above all gods.  He strictly forbade his subjects to leave his domain and would become quite enraged when anyone tried to leave.  Hades was married to Persephone, whom he stole and made queen of the underworld.  See our colorway, Demeter's Struggle, for the story of Persephone's kidnapping.
