Probably the most heavy producing bean variety that I have. Thai Soldier long beans are kind of like a blend of southern peas and green beans. But its actually part of the cow pea or yard long bean family. The pods are extra long and can be eaten just like green beans. It has similar flavor and texture to green beans. Pods are thick and crunchy. The purple color does fade a little when cooked. However, the plants are bushy and have short sprawling vines like southern or cowpeas. Does not require a trellis but will climb up near by objects. I like to plant beneath fruit trees or larger plants like tomatoes. Very very VERY productive.
