MITCHELL, CHARLIE HAND WOVEN SILK STEVENSGRAPH (1888)
HISTORY: Charlie Mitchell was born on November 24, 1861 in Birmingham, England. He was a heavyweight contender in the 1870's and 1880's. His first professional fight was a win over Andy Gray on January 1, 1877. On February 7, 1890 he won the British Heavyweight Title defeating the legendary Jem Mace. Mithchell faced many significant heavyweights during his career including Jake Kilrain, John L. Sullivan, Frank Slavin, Mike Cleary, Dominick McCaffrey and Jim Corbett. He retired after losing to Steve O'Donnell on May 25, 1896 with a final record of 30-3-14. Charlie Mitchell passed away in 1918.
