c1869 Canton de Berne, Simmenthal, Switzerland Tinted Photograph Adolphe Braun Costumes De Suisse
A beautiful, and rare, hand tinted photograph by Adolphe Braun which is part of his series Costumes de Suisse from circa 1869. The Canton de Berne, Simmenthal, Switzerland features an attractive young lady standing on wood plank crossing a small creek. She is surrounded by plants and carries a bible in her right hand while holding up her skirt with her left hand. She is wearing a dress and hat typical of the area. The photo card measures approx 8 1/8" x 6 3/8" with the actual image sizing being about 6 1/4" x 4 1/2". I believe the photograph is of French origin and use the albumen silver print technique. Condition: tanning, foxing, spotting and board is wavy from moisture with edge wear.
