c1869 Canton de Lucerne (illegible), Switzerland Tinted Photograph Adolphe Braun
A beautiful, and rare, hand tinted photograph by Adolphe Braun which is part of his series Costumes de Suisse from circa 1869. The Canton of Lucerne, and I believe it says luthbuch, but I am not certain, Switzerland features a woman leaning against a desk with on hand on a window and another on a stack of books the desk. She is facing a lovely ornate chair with some knitting materials. She is wearing the customary dress for the area. The photo card measures approx 8 1/8" x 6 3/8" with the actual image sizing being about 6 1/4" x 4 1/2". I believe the photograph is of French origin and use the albumen silver print technique. Condition: Some minor paint issues, tanning, foxing, spotting and board is wavy from moisture with edge wear.
