Fossils help us understand life from ancient days. They formed when minerals in water replaced materials in bones and tissue, creating a replica in stone of the original organism. Orthoceras lived in prehistoric oceans using their long cone-shaped shells equipped with jet propulsion to zip around like modern day squid. Kenric Laiwakete's Bear has been smoothly sculpted from a fascinating orthoceras abundant specimen. Eyes and an alternating heartline or breath path are from sky blue turquoise inlays complimented by the gorgeous natural arches of the fossil. Approximately 2 5/8" long, 1/2" wide and roughly 1 1/2" tall.
