Inside Out

2022 Media: Cold wax, oils, ink, charcoal, marble dust, and dry pigment Substrate: cradled birch panel prepared with acrylic gesso and acrylic medium Dimensions: 10in x 10in x 1 5/8in   What am I looking at?  The underlying colors in this painting are vibrant, but there are middle layers of dark that partially obscure the bottom layers. There are some iridescent dry pigments and some broken layers of blue in the mid ground, and vibrant teals / turquoises with dark metallics in the foreground. The varying transparent and opaque colors have different degrees of reflectivity, so as you move in front of this painting the color and luminosity changes slightly. The contrasts between warm and cool, vibrant and neutral move forward and back through the layers as much as around the surface of the work.    How big is it?  This is the approximate scale of a 10x10" painting, compared to a person who is 5' 8" tall:
