Abalone Shell Powder (Haliotis Spp.)

Abalone Shell Powder (Haliotis spp.), known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Shi Jue Ming (石决明), is a cooling, salty, and mineral-rich substance traditionally used to anchor rising yang, clear liver heat, and improve vision. Finely ground from the iridescent inner layer of natural abalone shells, this powder retains the calming and heat-clearing properties associated with its oceanic origin. In TCM, Shi Jue Ming is most often used to pacify the liver and subdue yang, making it useful for symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, tinnitus, and blurred vision due to liver heat or rising liver yang. It is also employed in formulas aimed at eye health and pressure regulation, especially in cases of red, swollen, or painful eyes caused by excess internal heat. This fine mineral powder is typically added to decoctions at the end of cooking, or consumed in capsule or pill form. It is often paired with herbs like Gou Teng (Uncaria), Bai Ji Li (Tribulus), and Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum) to enhance it
