Part of the Umai Collection, created by Lavendercat. This print, Awakening, showcases a beautiful hand roll filled with cucumber slices, avocado, crab, and, most strikingly, two little Oni heads nestled together. One sleeps while the other awakens. An eye on the hand roll weeps a single tear. I wanted this piece to evoke a sense of spirituality, an etherealness. Perhaps the elegant hand holding the hand roll is a goddess, bestowing sentience or life upon the world—symbolized by the hand roll. With sentience comes the gift of free will. But with this gift comes the awareness of suffering, both personal and universal. It’s a duality—a blessing and a curse. It is an Awakening. Perhaps the eye weeps of this newfound knowledge...
