December 25, 1990 Cynthia, I hope this letter finds you well and in good spirits. As for me, I am currently stranded in the Khartoum airport, experiencing what just might be, the longest layover of my life. Let me tell you, it's been quite the adventure. Since I have nothing else to do, I thought I would write you this letter. It all started when Sudan Airlines decided to cancel my flight to Cairo. (I’m mad at myself for booking this fight so close to Christmas). There aren’t words that can accurately describe my frustration, knowing that I would miss spending Christmas Eve with you. But, I soon realized that this layover would be the true test of my love for you. After all, if I can survive 27 hours in the Khartoum airport, I can survive anything.
